OS X 10.7.5 on 2011 Mac Mini.
Ubuntu 14.04 installed on partition of hard drive.
rEFInd installed.
External USB backup drive.

I can not boot ubuntu when the USB drive is attached.
If I disconnect the hard drive the ubuntu partition and bootable thumb drive (if attached) will be recognized. This goes for both Boot Manager and rEFInd.

It _seems_ as if when the USB drive is attached, that the machine recognizes that drive and attempts to boot it, not seeing the boot devices at all.

This problem has seemed to "come and go" in the past. Any and all advice is welcomed.

NOTE : Being unfamiliar with these forum configurations, I may have started this thread in the wrong forum.
If it is possible for an administrator or moderator to relocate this post to
Running Windows (or anything else) on your Mac , I'd appreciate it. Thanks
