Welcome to the Mac-Forums.

A new iMac 5K should last for at least 5 years. But keep in mind as fast as technology moves at today's paces, it may be outmoded in that time. ;)

As far as using it for Adobe software (you didn't say which) or Autodesk, it should be fine. Watching movies and Anime can be done on any computer that Apple sells.

How long is a piece of rope?

In your case…what do you consider a "long time"? A long time means different things to different people.:)

Thanks for defining "long time" for you.:)

With just about any new computer…the useful lifetime is usually in the 3-5 year range. This is due to a number of reasons:

- new OS version's being more demanding
- new OS versions incorporating newer features that require newer hardware
- newer versions of apps being more complex
- the computer "world" changing in ways we cannot predict today
- the exact performance expectations and tasks of the user

Beyond 5 years…I would (on average) consider someone to be in the "bonus round" with a computer. This is especially true if someone is doing complex video or graphics work on a computer.

If we were just talking a computer that mostly only does internet & email…with just these demands…the useful lifespan of a computer is most likely longer.:)
