I lost sound yesterday. I went to system preferences/sound/output and I have a selection of one device. USB Internet Phone by Tigerjet. I reinstalled 10.6.3 this morning and updated to 10.6.8. I have the same problem.

Suggestions/ solution???

Thanks,
Bill

My sound panel has a choice for the internal Mac Mini speaker. Yours doesn't, and that seems strange to me. I don't know how to tell you to get it to show up, nor do I have the slightest idea what "Tigerjet" is.

If you click on "Show All" does that bring up anything?

first which type of mac mini the thinner one or the thicker one with the cd drive.

this will tell us how to proceed because of these options.

1. if its a older thicker mini the sound board is dead and you need to order a new one

2. if its a thinner mini no cd drive your logic board is failing

Show all returns me to the main menu

"show all" yields the above menu.

I haven't found a solution yet. I called Apple support and they call back to tell me the wait is lengthy. I couldn't wait as I had company. I'm not too happy with them at the moment.

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC to see if that brings back the normal sound settings.

Thank you.

I did the resets as you recommended and I now have sound again. Thank you. I think I am still missing sound devices. See the attached from system preferences/sound.

If you unplug the headphones and internal speaers show up, you're not missing anything.

Unless you have other devices attached or other bluetooth devices turned on within range you have not told us about.

You both are awesome!

Thank you for your assistance. Internal speaker works just fine when I unplug. I hope I can return the favor some day.

Thanks again!
Bill
