Make those 2 columns narrower.
You will see that as you change the width of the column, the info displayed will change until you only have the date displayed.

If you are still running OS X 10.6 - I can't remember that far back - so, give it a try.

View > Show View Options

Uncheck what you don't want to see.

The alternate method, right clicking on the window to go into Show View Options, will not make the changes permanently. The next time you open that window, everything that was checked before will appear.

Why are you still running 10.6.2? There are free upgrades you've missed, all the way up to 10.6.8.

Download it directly from Apple: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399?locale=en_US

When I narrow the columns, the spelled months go away and the dates are all numeric.
Can I change that?

I'm running 10.10.2. Just forgot to update my profile.

If you're making the columns too narrow to display "September", then what is it you would like it to do differently?
