On the latest version of Mac OS here. Intermittantly, my search engine switches to Yahoo, when it is supposed to be Google. How do I fix this, other than changing it under options? This happens in Chrome and Safari.

That's how you do it. Go to "Options" or "Preferences" for the app & change it.

Once & done…not so difficult.:)

It's actually NOT obvious. You actually didn't say it didn't work in post #1. In fact you actually didn't even say that you even tried that method. If it had been obvious that you tried that method & it didn't work. Then I wouldn't have suggested it.:)

I also find it unusual that your having this problem with two browsers (Safari & Chrome).

I'm sure you would have told us; but have you been using a downloader app such as YTD? I have used this for some time as a YouTube Downloader, but it is actually owned or linked to Yahoo and after every update, it tends to changes the settings in whatever browser you use, from Google to Yahoo. But not every time and it can intermittently do this! It's extremely tiresome to change the settings in all the browsers.

Long shot; probably you're ahead of me on this, But just a thought.
