Is Gdisk any good as an alternative to the iDisk, as I don't really want to have to pay £69 or so when I have a Gmail account sitting there with 2GB storage.

Cheers surfwax95 gave it a go and its great. I've already suggested being able to mount the disk like iDisk for future releases of gDisk.

That's one of my complaints too. The fact that you have to open the program every time rather than just mounting it once and drag/drop files into it...

Im using gDisk as well...But, im having a problem. Is there any chance to upload files from my PC so i can have access from my Mac?
In other words is there any program for windows that i can use on my PC and have access from gDisk on my Mac?
I found the Gmail Disk but doesnt works like i thought, i copied a picture in that disk but i couldnt see that from my gDisk =/
I logged into my Gmail account from safari and there i found my file there as a mail and thats not what i want =.=
Hope for an answer since that thread is very old, but i didnt want to make a new thread :)

You might want to look up box.net they have both PC and Mac support. If you want I can refer you to them, just PM me your email address.

If you use Firefox, a great add-on is GSpace Lets you use the 2.8GB available for your gmail account to store files and access them whenever you log in to gmail, I assume this is what GDisk is used for also?

Is it possible to use any of these softwares as an actual FTP server, one which I can link files to friends for them to download without having access to my actual gmail account?

Well you get 1GB for free and if you refer friends, I believe it increases the amount of space that you have, but Im not sure if they are still doing that or not :) Ill send you an invite!
