I cal all messed up

I recently started a google calendar for our family to keep track of vacations etc. I mistakenly assumed that this was completely separate from iCal whch I have been using for a while. Now, when I look at my iCal. All my regular work appts. are gone and the particular calendar which I had been using ( an iCloud one) is also gone, help!!!
