Hi everyone,
I have Office for Mac 2011 on my iMac running Yosemite and with 8G of memory and about 50% or disc space available. I've had the iMac for about 4-5 years and more recently it seems to me that Office products - Word, Exell etc. are talking an inordinate amount of time to load up. Apart from Repairing Permissions does anyone know of a solution to this - or should I just bin it and revert to the Apple products?

What is "inordinate"? I use Office for Mac on my MBP and it takes about 12 seconds to open Word.

Do you happen to be working with large files? Larger files will slow down the opening of Office products especially if they are rich content heavy.

On my computer, Word opens completely, ready to go, in 10 seconds. I have no suggestions for you, oldmoondog. I'm just providing another timeframe reference for opening Word - Office 2011. My system info is under my avatar. I definitely do not have a monster machine.

Thanks VanSmith but I might as well uninstall it and re install. Most of the methods in your suggestions are either not available or run out half way through unable to find the next reference. Thanks anyway.

It takes about 5 seconds on my MB Air with an SSD. My MB Pro takes about 10 seconds + with a regular Hard drive.

I recently used my Carbon Copy backup to clone a new drive for my Mac Pro. I had to reinstall Office 2011 because Word and Excel started crashing when opened. I uninstalled and deleted all the hidden stuff detailed in this article:

Reinstalled it and all is great. While my issue is not the same as yours, it can't hurt to do a complete uninstall and then reinstall Office.
