Is it possible to have split screen, similar to Windows, on a Macbook Pro?

The BetterTouchTool will give snapping windows etc like windows Aero and XFinder will do same for finder windows. The both allow a lot of configuration.

Thanks Andy
Is there no inbuilt mechanism to split screen between, say, Safari and Emails or Pages and Numbers, like on Windows where you can have the screen split Horizontally or Vertically?
Do I have to buy an App. for a £1500 Macbook?

Built in mechanism, no. Put two windows side by side. Or over under.
Would be kind of small though.
Or use Spaces. Wouldn't be side by side though.

Yes. Because this isn't Windows, and shouldn't be used like it. I think you'll discover, in time, that Apple's window management is actually much better.
