You can try the free open source "Burn" program. Download from here.

Welcome jako,

What are you using to create the slide shows? If you want to burn them to a dvd you have to put them in a format the program will accept.

Here is an article that discusses the two I would recommend:

The Best Disc Burning App for Mac

I have heard really good things about Toast but also Burn - which is free - is okay too.

Burn has never failed me, and has performed better than Toast on multiple occasions. With Burn though, you will need to select 'Copy' and then drag the images you want, into the window and then click Burn.
Its that simple.
Now if you want to actually have a slideshow on you DVD, you will need to use yet another App, to build the slideshow, then Burn that slideshow to DVD.
I use to use iDVD for this, but Keynote should do the trick too.

Previously, you can burn iPhoto slideshow to DVD using iDVD. However, from Mac OS X 10.7, there is no iDVD any more. So how can you burn iPhoto slideshow to DVD after you update your Mac OS X to EL Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion and Lion?

If you have the same issue, read though this article to get the solution.

iDVD is a free tool that allows the user to burn QuickTime movies, MP3 music, and digital photos to a DVD on Mac OS X. However, from Mac OS X 10.7, there is no iDVD any more. If you are using Mac OS X 10.6 and earlier, you can still use iDVD to burn iPhoto slideshow to DVD..

Of course there is iDVD and it is still current in macOS Sierra.

There is no iPhoto any more, just Photos.
