I am not sure what is happening but every time I try to navigate an app, any app, I get the spinning color wheel. I have a mid 2011 IMac 2.7 GHZ 12GB(DDR3) Intel Core i5 running Yosemite 10.10.3...Also have Mac Keeper to keep system clean.
Activity Monitor shows 90% idle, but even typing this text I get the wheel. Please help1

Take a look at Activity Monitor to ascertain what might be using up your memory. It's very possible that some process is running wild.

vansmith,

I have no processes running wild, in fact, my CPU is 95% +/- a couple percent idle. Nothing seems to be draining. Any other ideas?

You didn't answer my question from post #3. Again, do you have any OTHER helpers like that? Antivirus/speedups/etc?

Much that was mentioned would be "good stuff" to keep "beach balls" at a minimum.

- rebooted the computer
- removed MacKeeper
- newer computer that has plenty of "horsepower"
- good amount of ram (12gig)
- CPU "% Idle" in Activity Monitor is 95+%

Other things to check or consider:

- Provide the info MacInWin asked about other "helper apps"
- Just for the heck of it…try a PRAM/NVRAM Reset
- Consider that MAYBE there's a problem with the hard drive (failure)
- Let us know how full the hard drive is (gigs free & gigs used)

What about memory usage? A lack of memory could just as easily be the culprit.

PRAM Reset did the trick it looks like. I am not going to reinstall MacKeeper, but is there a recommended utility to use in its place?

Give OnyX a whirl - it's free and pretty reliable.

You went to the wrong site (or clicked on the wrong thing). Get Onyx here:

Titanium Software - OnyX

Make sure you download the correct version of Onyx for the OS version you are running.:)

So...if anyone is still watching this forum, I am still getting the spinning color wheel although it is not as bad. I noticed a "watchdogd" process in activity monitor...not sure if this is needed or the culptir. only 764 kb of memory used. Please advise if you have suggestions.

Did you take a look to see how memory is in use? I still think something is going on here with the amount of total memory being used.
