I am trying to import pictures to photo using a Transcend high speed memory card. I am using Yosemite very. 10.10.3
When inserted in my computer the card shows up on the desktop, but not in the desktop folder. Because of this I am unable to import any pictures.
I am using the right memory card or what am I doing wrong?

Your desktop is nothing more than a representation of your desktop folder. That said, mounted disks will only show up on your desktop and not in the desktop folder - this is just "how it is." Is there any particular reason that accessing the card from the desktop won't work?

by double clicking on the drive's icon to open it in Finder.

Or open Image Capture to import pictures from it.

Or, not sure what you mean by "import to photo", but if you mean you would like to import the pics into the iPhoto or the Photos application, then open the application and head for File - Import.
