IMac won't boot up

My 6 yr old iMac won't boot up, was slow and clunky immediately beforehand and now won't boot up at all. 2 calls with apple and they say go and get the hardware checked! Any ideas please?

Faulty hard drive.

Cannot help further without model and operating systemd details.
