I recently downloaded Yosemite on my mid 2007 iMac with 4 GB. Can I upgrade to 6 GB (2+4)? Will that prevent the spinning beachball?

If this is definitely a Mid-2007 iMac. Yes…you can install a max. of 6gig of ram (4gig + 2gig).

As far as the beachballs. 6gig will be better than 4gig…but it probably won't eliminate/prevent the beachballs. But they should occur less often.:)

Yes, your Mid 2007 iMac can accept 6 GB. Whether or not that will stop the beachballs remains to be seen. A lot depends on how full your hard drive is and what programs you're running. Yosemite runs best with 8 GB of memory although Apple says it will run with 4 GB. Here's the specs for your iMac:

Maximum Memory 6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots 2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM

Hey Charlie. Believe it or not. Apple says folks can run Yosemite on only 2gig of ram. Ha Ha Ha…good luck with that experience!;)

I have a 2010 Mac-Mini with 4gig of ram (that I purchased recently). So far…it seems to be doing pretty good with 4gig of ram & Yosemite (internet surfing & email).

I'm guessing that if I started using stuff like Photoshop, Final Cut, Logic, etc. 4gig of ram probably wouldn't "get er' done"!;)
