I'm not interested in upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks. I must have clicked on the wrong button (not 'details') and downloaded new software, because my mid 2009 MacBook Pro says it's ready to install new software when I restart. How can I undue this so that when I restart I don't install the software waiting to be installed? Thanks.

What new software did you download? If you downloaded Yosemite it will be located in your Applications Folder and will be clearly marked as an installer. If you find it there, delete it and then allow the system to reboot. Nothing will install and it will just reboot back to Mavericks.

Yes agree with what chscag says, that will do it but you might want to save it somewhere like an external drive just in case you decide to upgrade at a later time. Seems a pity to throw away an installer of 4 Gb +.:)
