Accessing .dat files in Yosemite

Are you referring to the winmail.dat files you might receive on occasion from Microsoft Outlook users in Mac Mail?

This can be avoided on the sender side by having them send the mail as plain text.

Otherwise I'm not too sure what .dat files you would need to access?

Sorry for the vague question. It's just that I recently upgraded to Yosemite after being on Snow Leopard and I wasn't able to see what I've been used to until I found the un-hide all files script below.

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true ; killall Finder

I'm not a script guy so this came in handy for me to find. I got what I was looking for. Thanks MacsWork
