What does it mean to "share my library on my local network" in sharing preferences in

Basically, as the name suggests, you can "share" your music, video etc. with others and their computers or compatible devices. Your "local Network" (LAN) is what you have setup via wired Ethernet cables or over wireless.
In iTunes, just click the Help (menu) and select iTunes Help and type in sharing and have a read on the various topics that should explain things for you.
