Is it possible to install/run OS 10.7(Lion) or 10.8 (Mt Lion) on a late 2006 iMac (OS 10.6.8, 2.16 Ghz) w/upgraded memory (4GB, 3 useable)? Need OS 10.7 at least for new software.

G'day and welcome to the forums.

It depends. A mid 2006 the answr is no, only Snow Leopard, a late 2006 yes you can buy Lion OS X.7 from Apple Online for only $20 including postage. Even more confusing they are both model number A1195. Now the good news is the 2.16GHz model is a late 2006 so Lion can run on it.

Yes, there are fixes for this particular machine -- but have you looked at a calendar lately? You're in need of something newer. You need to start planning for that now rather than later.
