iPhone signal strength

21.5" MacOS Sierra 10.12.6
Occasionally the telephone signal strength indicated on my iPhone decays to one dot when using my house WiFi and the internet speed reduces. I believe there should be no interconnection but restarting my iPhone and rebooting my router cures the problem?
