Location of old desktop background pictures

I have downloaded and installed several background pictures but at the moment I have one of the default pictures set as the background.

None of the pictures I downloaded are available in the 'Change Desktop Background' box. Only the default ones.

Do these pictures exist somewhere or were they automatically deleted when I changed the display?

If you downloaded them…then they may still be in your downloads folder. When you say you "installed" them…where did you put them or how did you install them?

Thanks for getting back.

I downloaded them to my desktop, opened them and selected 'Use Image As Desktop Picture'.

Once installed I deleted/trashed the original file and my Download Folder is empty.

You can check on things manually (and install desktop pictures manually) by going to:

- open Hard Drive
- open "Library" folder
- open "Desktop Pictures" folder

This is where the "goodies" are stored. If the desktop pictures/photos aren't there…this is probably why they are not showing up in the "Change Desktop Pattern" list.

I have just replicated my installation of a new desktop background from a downloaded jpg and after that jpg is trashed there is no trace of the name of that file even though the desktop remains.

The change background box shows it as a Safari Desktop Picture.

Instead of doing the right-click method of installing…why not try manually "installing" these backgrounds as I described above?

If the "old files" are not in the "Desktop Pictures" folder. Then they either never got there in the first place…or they are being sent somewhere else (during the right-click install method).

And if they are being sent somewhere else…this would seem to explain why they are not showing up in the "Change Desktop Pattern" List.
