OS X Leopard I have a 2007 Macbook white chassis.
The whole screen goes bright white and the keys or track pad doesn't work, but if I slightly move the screen it becomes fixed and I can carry on with what I was doing.

I would say that is hardware - IMO. I could take a guess and say the cable that is running from your logic board to the screen is worn, loose, or pinched in some manner and moving it allows it to reconnect. If that is the case, it will eventually fail.

The screen being white means you probably can't see the mouse or curser so I imagine it would be hard to tell if they were working or not.

You might check out ifixit.com to see what potential repair options you might find.
