Today I installed a Samsung 850 Evo SSD into my MacBook Pro 2010, along with 4GB X 2 of Crucial memory.

Did a clone of old HD with Super Duper.

Last HD was Seagate Momentus XT

The reason for upgrade far TOO many incidences of the dreaded spinning wheel, very slow internet page loading, slow Photoshop, Garageband etc.

After the cloned disk install boot up time even slower!!!

Is this due to existing apps- programs -software that might be slowing system down?

Please advise, I thank you for your answers in advance

I really do not want to do a fresh install as have passkeys for apps- etc

Simon

Hello Raving Mac,

I have over 500GB spare.

I really do not want to do a fresh install for two reasons:

ONE i do not have the install CD with me

TWO have lost install CDs and passkey for LOTS of software.

I really thought this SSD would produce blistering reboot speed (around 10 secs) but taking in the region of 50 seconds plus.

No real noticeable difference when loading web pages (still slow)

MUST be something wrong somewhere- am thinking some software I have loaded along the way

Any suggestions?

Easy let me guess are you using yosemite.

Yosemite take time to load no matter what.

There is nothing to speed up that process.

1. ) So this is a 1TB SSD ?
2.) What OS are you running?
3.) Do you run some kind of Anti-Virus?
4.) What is the Link Speed of your Mac and Negotiated Speed and is this drive compatible with that speed?
5.) SSD will have no affect on web pages loading just apps loading and multitasking.

This is your problem in a nutshell. Cloning from a spinning hard drive to a SSD only causes problems and will actually induce slowdowns. You've got a choice to make here... do you want a slow machine or one that's fast with a fresh install?
