Do I need to have a drive bigger than my currently drive when replacing it? I would like to go SSD. I just want settings and what not transferred over and users and stuff like that.

I'm assuming you're referring to replacing a spinning hard drive with a SSD? You should consider getting an SSD that will be able hold everything you already have on your other drive plus plan for the future. There is no point in getting a small size SSD just for the added speed. You need to consider and think that the new SSD is going to be your primary drive now and for as long as you keep your machine.

Not sure I understand what Time Machine has to do with this? Just make sure the drive you use for Time Machine is at least the same size or larger than your Mac's drive.

I know that you can't use a smaller drive for a time machine backup. But if the full size hasn't been used yet, can you use a smaller primary drive to restore the backup too?
