If I posted this in the wrong forum sorry :( I didn't see a gaming forum.

I tried playing WoW on my ibook it runs OK but nothing great. I only have 256 ram right now but in about 3 weeks I will be buying a 512 stick of ram giving my a total of 768. Would this make the game more playable? anyone here play WoW on their iBook? if so how does it run and what settings in game do you use?

Thanks all!

My iBook specs just in case.

12" IBook 1.2ghz
Tiger OS
256 ram
32 video ram ATI

Well I have heard that it maybe beneficial to run 1GB of memory, but that is just word of mouth. What ATI card are you running, because if you are running anything lower than a 9200, you might see some performace problems.

You diffenitly need more Ram. You will notice a slow down when going into a high populated city.

Your better off just going out and buying a 1gb stick of ram and running with that, instead of going with a 512mb.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the ibook would use PC2700 SoDIMM's
You should be able to use whatever brand you want to.

If in fact your ibook use's PC2700 and you put in PC2100 ram, your ram speed will run at the slower of the 2 speeds. - Which is a performance hit.

The rest of the hardware is fine, I run WoW on a 1.25ghz Mini with 1gb of ram, and it handles everything just fine.

Go to System Profiler, and look at the Memory Section, it should tell you the speed of the ram.

Yeah, surprisingly, my ibook can play Warcraft 3 (I know that is altogether different from WoW), better than his laptop. He has suggested that because it uses a different OpenGL it runs it with out lag, in fact I was running it at 1024x768 32 bit, and high settings, and only minimum lag, I would have like to have seen how it would handle it if I got a GB of ram in it.

WoW runs on my iBook, but not very well. It is worthless for PvP, especially AV. You definantly need more ram to make it even barely playable IMO.

PvP worthless on your ibook?
My buddy at work, who I play with on a PvP Realm does it on a ibook 14", recently bought new with 1gb of ram, and it plays just like this dell laptop, which is built for gaming.

Maybe your settings are too high or a slow HDD...

It ran better on my 1.3GHz Pentium-M Dell...

Press Ctrl+R and let me know what kind of frame rates you are getting.

Multisampling- 16-bit color 24-bit depth 1x multisample
Terrain Distance, Environment Detail, Anisotropic Filtering, Terrain Texture, Texture Detail- All at their lowest
Level of Detail: On
Vertex Animation Shaders: On
Hardware Cursor: On
Vertical Sync: On
Spell Level Detail: Low

512mb of ram, what do you honestly expect? - Its gonna be slow. On my desktop (windows based - purpose built gaming machine) with 1gb of ram, it was a little slow, of couse I was maxed out on the settings...

I know my friend plays with the settings on default, nothing fancy at all...

I'm thinking 1024x768 on a 12" screen is what makes it slow for you. Thats just a guess, I really dont know, because I dont play at that resolution.
