When my wife was having trouble with her MacBook, I made a copy of her system and stored it on my external hard drive as a .dmg. Now I need to get rid of that .dmg file because we no longer need it. But when I move that .dmg file from the external hard drive to the trash and attempt to 'Secure Empty Trash' it... nothing happens.

It appears as if it's emptying but, I left the computer try to empty it all day yesterday and then let it run overnight and it appears that it will simply never delete.

I tried opening it with 'ImageDiskMounter' and 'Disk Utility' but, neither of them want to open it. (I was attempting to 'unmount' it)

I'm stuck and have no idea what to try next. :(
