• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

There are any chance Mac can support Blu ray in the future? if not, can we play Blu ray disc directly on iMac? I'm quite confused as I can't find any threads here about it. Help, please!

Did you do a search on the words "Blu-ray" on this forum? We've gotten this question a few hundred times and answered it about as often.

Short version: it's very unlikely that Apple will ever officially support Blu-ray, but that doesn't matter much. Using a combination of a Blu-ray drive and third-party software (do NOT buy software for this purpose from any company that ends in the word -soft!), you can handle Blu-ray movie and data discs right now (and have been able to for some years).

I went ahead and moved this post to the Movies and Videos forum, since it's not an Apple Rumor, nor a 'Report'.

Please read the forum descriptions before choosing to post in one. This helps to keep the forum tidy and also helps you to get your answer more efficiently.

No one said you couldn't play Blu-ray discs. Chas_m merely pointed out that it's unlikely Apple will decide to officially support this. That is why third0party software is needed. Which he also pointed out.

Cradom pointed out that he was unsure about playback and noted that burning such discs requires an additional plug in in Toast.

OS X doesn't support Blu-ray as such, so I use VLC to play blu rays on my mac. It doesn't always work perfectly and it doesn't allow you to access the menus, but you can watch blu rays with it for free, without having to pay for additional software.
