After upgrading my Mac Mini's RAM from 2 GB to 8GB (early 2009), on startup I zapped the PRAM 3 to 4 times, but noticed that I had no audio from the Mini's speaker (I observed the screen to determine that the zap happened).

Prior to the upgrade, I had updated the firmware to 1.2 to be on the safe side, even though my system report said it was up-to-date.

The RAM upgrade was successful, with noticeable faster performance, except for no sound! When I checked the system report, under audio, it said: Intel High Definition Audio / Audio ID: 0

Any ideas or suggestions?

Firsy go into System Preferences > Sound > Output and make sure volume has not been turned right down on Mute selected.

also the ribbon cable for that model of mini is easy to break i would check to see if you didn't damage the sound board in any way.

To harryb2448: For Sound Output, it reports: No output devices found.

To johnodd4: I will check it out when I reopen my Mini later.

Thanks for both of your replies.

I once had that happen on my 2007 Mini. I had been inside maybe 20 times and never had issue but the last time the ribbon to the sound board got pulled too hard and broke! No device found, same as you. I found one on Ebay and replaced it and it works great.

Thanks, Dennis. I'm afraid this is what I suspect happened.
Right now, I'm too stuffed from dinner and too tired. I am going to
check this out in the morning.
If this is the case, I will confess my Mini-sins on this site.

Thanks to all of the advice sent my way, regarding "no sound after upgrading RAM."

I ordered and received the Sabrent USB Adapter, so I now have sound again. Looking back prior to my RAM upgrade, I think I might have been starting to have audio issues, so perhaps my sound board was at fault ... not sure ... but I don't think I'll try and replace that at this time.

Thanks, Dennis, for your Sabrent suggestion.

Jon
