MacBook Pro running Hot. Launchd is taking up 70%+ of CPU in activity monitor. What is launchd?Problem started when upgrade to Yosemite two months ago. I opted to stop launchd, is this a mistake?

I can't really explain easily what launchd does, so I'll post a link to Apple's description of it. But in a nutshell, yes, force quitting it is a mistake. You should reboot.

As for why it's taking up so much CPU, that will be harder to nail down. After rebooting, try running Onyx's full suite of maintenance and cleaning tools to see if that resolves it. Also make sure all your apps are up-to-date and Yosemite-compatible.
