Kernel panics don't "kill" hard drives. Kernel panics don't kill anything. But broken things can cause kernel panics.

Or maybe try —— a failing/failed hard drive caused a panic kernel… ;)

Why …??? —— because hard dives fail??? Hmmm… ;) :D

Nick - one of the best terse summaries that I've seen in a while - LOVE it! :)

Hope that the OP has a backup plan? Dave

Hi Zink..... - please provide some information on your setup (e.g. type of Mac & age + OS X installed)? Do you have any type of backup, i.e. Time Machine and/or a cloned drive? This will help others to respond better to your needs. Dave :)

I am assuming you do not have a backup. So back up everything you can - immediately if not sooner.

Then post back what your computer is - model, year, version of OS X. We can't guide you through how to format and reinstall until you do.

Lisa

Edit: Dave you typed faster!

Hi Lisa - LOL! :) At least we said the same thing, so must be good advice.

P.S. thanks for responding to that other thread related to 2 routers - I'm OK w/ one router but not two, so did not want to advise further - you & Bob provided some excellent directions.

Where does the kernel panic part fit in? Running Disk Utility & getting this message does not need a kernel panic to be necessarily involved.

The best way to repair the disk is to boot the computer into the Recovery Partition (if running OS 10.7 or newer). Then launch Disk Utility…and repair the disk.

It is possible that maybe the hard drive is failing…and simply needs to be replaced. Disk Utility cannot fix hardware related issues…just software issues.

Or maybe even try booting using Safe Boot Mode???

And then see if and what happens… ;)

LOL Dave...thanks.:)

Many times I can be a bit verbose (trying to be detailed)...and sometimes I get lucky & type a concise one!;)

LOL! Hopefully we did - at least we try!

The multiple router thing can be a bit tricky, but when set up right will work beautifully!
