I'm looking for a robust alternative to MS Word that is compatible with a robust cite-while-you-write software, all for the purpose of writing my dissertation. I have EndNote and am looking at Mellel for word-processing. However, Mellel doesn't allow cite-while-you-write with EndNote. For reference management, I've used RefWorks & Mendeley without much success. Have 19,000 references and find that switching reference packages looses a lot of formatting/field integrity, perhaps inherited from RefWorks? Scrivener is not EndNote compatible.

Suggestions for a total dissertation-writing package?

G'day and welcome to the fprums.

Wish you well however imho Office 2011 is the best suite available. Office 2015 is expected to launch in a couple of months.

Harry, Word is not the best package for dissertations.

I agree, and normally would recommend Scrivener. But you say it's not compatible with Endnote so that really leaves you with no choice. (Several of my good friends have suffered through writing their dissertation with Word.)
