I'm running yosemite on my iMac and MB Pro. I can't put them to sleep when I'm connected to the Wi-Fi. I have to turn it off to get it to go to sleep.

I've checked the energy pane of all the processes in the activity monitor, as well as the system preferences, but still can't get the machine to go to sleep without turning off the wi-fi. Anyone else encountering this and if so can you give me any hints how to fix this?

How are you connecting to WiFi? If both your Macs won't sleep when connected, then something is preventing them and common to both machines. Likely your router or network. Since you provided us with no information at all about your setup anything we respond would be a guess at best.
