iMac 24" (2008) does not show slot loading ptical drive

Suddenly - the optical drive rejects any disk I insert. when I check the system information - the hardware list does not show any cd/dvd drive. Please advised howe I can repair this problem. I have Mavericks installed. :[

If your optical drive does not show up in system information and will not accept a disk, it may have failed. You can try doing an SMC reset and PRAM reset. If neither of them work to restore the drive, you might need to replace it.
