You probably want to find com.apple.finder.plist (it's in the Library folder in your User folder, not one of the other Library folders)

Move that plist file to the Desktop and Restart. Report back.

What's your OS version? Your Users/YOU/Library folder might be hidden.

Looks like you're using Launchpad. If so, take a look here.

OK, that's Launcher (which IMHO is not needed at all) so to get rid of the folder, click and hold on the empty folder until it starts to shake. Then click the little X that appears and voila! the folder, she is gone! (or should be) If that fails, re-read post #7 and go to the link vansmith supplied for a brute force way to do it.

Yes, that's the file. As I noted above (post #6) the folder is hidden in newer versions of the OS. Not that easy to find on purpose, to prevent those not knowing what they are doing from messing things up in the Library folder, but not necessarily in Preferences.

okay, so i copy that file to my desktop
then delete it, and restart my device and that *should* fix my issue?

No and not necessarily.

Move the file. Copying it won't change anything. It has to be gone from the Preferences folder. Restarting will place a new file of the same name in that folder. It will contain all factory default information. It's like starting over. This might fix your issue, and it might not, but it won't damage anything. Try it and see. If it doesn't help, there are other things to try. As always, try the simple steps first.

Sorry to butt in here, but to maybe help divert some more problems — what the h*** is disturbed13
doing mucking about in the wrong folder??

The attached screenshot shows he's in /System/Library/LaunchAgents That ain't the Users folder folks!!

Better that that sorted out before Trashing any com.apple.finder.plist file, which I might add I have a total of separate com.apple.finder.plist files on my Mavericks iMac.

Gheese… :D

I'd suggest you get the answer from those giving you all the advice and whatever their intention was.

And deleting any such file doesn't make any sense to me going on your first posted question in this thread.

Personally I wouldn't do any such file deleting for now and start again with your original problem and then maybe get a more sensible correct answer. But then again, you didn't even follow the users directory path that was suggested.

Did you try what I suggested in post 10? You disappeared for six days after that. I thought it was solved.

No, thanks for butting in. Someone first suggested the plist file, and I piled on. As mentioned later, this is in the Launcher. The possible remedy in post #10 should be tried next. I continued to comment about the plist file as it kept being brought up, but that is not likely to be the answer. Sorry. And yes, that screen shot is of the wrong folder, but it doesn't matter, since dumping that file probably wouldn't help.
