is there a difference in server memory and regular desktop memory. I have a mac pro 1.1 with 16 gb on board and have an opportunity to pick up more that was pulled from a server. all of the nomenclature on the server memory seems to be the same as what I currently am using in my desktop.

Usually parts made for servers are more durable/reliable.

You didin't mention anything about what the memory specs/Mac specs are of the "server."
That's the part that is most important. It could be a server that uses slower memory than your model Mac. That wouldn't be so good.
