Are you entering the same username and password that you're using for your Google account? This should also be the same username and password that's used for gmail.

Just making sure. You be amazed at how many users miss that...

Go to System Preferences and click on Internet Accounts. Highlight your Gmail account by clicking on it. Is the Calendars selection box selected (check mark)? I don't have Google Calendar setup so I'm not sure what is supposed to be selected from their end, but the instructions seem to indicate that syncing with the Apple calendar app should work.

When I checked that box it took awhile for it to stay checked. I got the spinning circle for around 30 seconds or so. I suspect it went out via my WiFi connection and accessed my Gmail account before it checked it off. I also have an iCloud account setup but that was already setup for calendars which I use on my iPhone and iPad. You might also want to click on iCloud from System Preferences and select calendars from there also. Not sure that will help though.

Mine doesn't stay checked. I have fiddled with both these methods with no success :-(

I had a heck of a time with my google calendar too. I set up google mail, calendar and contacts multiple times and deleted it multiple times. I got the calendar and contacts to sync first. Mail just one day started working.

Yosemite has some serious issues with Google. I wish I could tell you how I got it all working. I just noticed one day I opened mail, the account name had changed from Google to Gmail. Mail, contacts, and calendar were all working. And I have no idea why or how.

Congratulations! There are times you don't question why and just enjoy the fact it works!
