Here in the U.S, today we observe Veteran's Day.

On behalf of myself and the staff, I'd like to say "thank you" to all of our veterans, past, present and future.

For those of us in a variety of Commonwealth nations who celebrate Remembrance Day, I hope that you've had a chance to remember and reflect on everyone who has made a sacrifice for a cause larger than their own life.

My late father saw active service in Burma during WW2. He was with the South Wales Borderers Regiment. Many of his friends didn't make it home and I alwys feel blessed that my dad did - he just said he was lucky; and in common with many war veterans rarely spoke of what he saw and did.

But I frequently read about their exploits (see attached) and wonder how I would have coped as a 22 year old leaving home to travel half way around the world.

My Dad served with the HQ section a radio operator.

Brave, brave men.

A few years back our county decided to honor our WWII veterans with a special memorial video. I was honored to do all the taping and editing of the final video. We interviewed over a dozen veterans who had served in Italy, Utah beach, with Patton's army, were prisoners of war, as a nurse on a ship, etc.

My most memorable moment came after one of the sessions where we had 8 vets sitting around a table. One of the vets looked over at another one and said, " I remember you. You were there when they opened the gates" The veteran had been a prisoner of war in a German prison camp. When Patton's army liberated them, one of the veterans to come through the gate and hug him was in the room. I can't even describe the emotions that flowed. Those two older gentlemen were hugging again for the first time since that long ago day. One was 92 the other 88. Both are now dead. I will never forget them both or there sacrifice.

God bless all our veterans.

Very warming story Lisa. Being a veteran myself, I know the sacrifices our young men and women make each day they put on that uniform.
