I have many pictures spread in some HDs and I don't know how to organize them.
They come from different sources:

- My current iPhoto library;
- Older iPhoto library backups;
- Photos from my Windows-user time.

And there are some facts to complicate the problem:

- I don't want to lose any meta-data the iPhoto may store (which I don't know what is nor where it's located);
- There are many repeated photos.

Is there a way to "easily" integrate all pictures? And create backups of this.

Thanks!

Not a problem. You need two tools:

* iPhoto Library Manager ($30) from here
* Duplicate Annihilator ($8) from here

Use iPhoto Library Manager (and a large external hard drive) to create a new consolidated iPhoto library that contains EVERYTHING, then (if you wish) break up said consolidated library into smaller libraries (most people don't even know that iPhoto, like iTunes, can handle multiple libraries!). Run Duplicate Annihilator to remove dupes from the Consolidated Library before breaking it up into multiple libraries.

That's basically it.

well you could just import them into iPhoto and let that organise them for you.

i didn't find that ideal and therefore have a file structure:

year
camera used
daily folder

e.g.

Pictures

2014

D800
18-07-14
12-07-14

D700
11-06-14

D90
04-05-14

That however takes some sorting depending on how many photos you've got, but once done works well and makes backing up easy as you can just copy and paste your whole pictures folder to an external HDD or if you know you've just added a new folder copy that one on its own.

I use lightroom and this file structue is mirrored in that
