outbox in Mail

my intended messages have been piling up in the outbox. Any suggestions. Doesn't happen when I use gmail directly.

We need a lot more detail than this. How have you configured your mail client? What provider is this? What mail client are you using?

sorry. May have fixed it by designating gmail under "Composing" dialogue.
