OS-X Yosemite iMac, 4GB memory, 2.4 GHz Intel Processor
When I try opening a particular file, I get the message "The document is invalid. The index.xml file is missing". Any ideas, please, as to how to overcome this?

XML is a file type, like HTML is for web files and configuration. I'm not sure that numbers is expected to open that file type. I wonder if you are actually thinking of the excel file types, such as .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm
