Hi,
How do I connect a PC G4 display/monitor only to a mac mini. I have noticed that the connection from the PC G4 display to the PC G4 tower is different to that of the Mac Mini, advice would be appreciated,
Thanks.

You have me confused by PC G4. A G4 to us Mac people is an older Power PC computer. Some used Apples Proprietary ADC port for Video. Is that what you have?

If not what is the brand and model of the display? If it is Apple give us the Model # if you can.

Hi,
And you must have youth on your side dtravis7, so from a more senior Mac user, yes it is one of the last apple towers Power Mac G4 (mirrored doors) Machine Model: PowerMac 3,6 Apple studio display 1280x1024 chipset model: ATY,RV250.
I am considering upgrading with a mac mini and would like to use the display from the G4 but the connections are different, could it be possible to use the G4 display instead of buying a new one.
Thanks for

Youth? Really? I wish. Been using Macs since the Plus. Have a DA with a 22" apple Cinema display. You SAID PC G4. A G4 is not a PC. A windows machine is a PC! :D Grin

The model number you gave was for your ATI Video card I fear. I am trying to find out exactly what plug your Studio Display has. Some have DVI and some early ones had the old ADC plug. If it has the ADC, only way to use it on a modern system is the old Apple ADC to DVI adapter. Doubt Apple makes them but you can find one on Ebay.

They are not cheap and were $100 new as they also have a Power Supply as the display has no Power supply. Used you might find one cheaper.

Is this your display?

OMG your correct, I meant PM G4 ( Power Mac ) and as for windows Yuk..!
I have checked the connection and it is a ADC plug that is connected from the display,
I will check out the ones that you have suggested on ebay,
You ve been a great help, as its been a bit frustrating trying to find out, thank goodness for macforums,
And you are definitely the man today.

Glad I could help. Hope this solves your issue. That adapter works great. It's about the size of a old G4 Mac Mini! :D Grin

Want a tip Bear?

Don't bother with power connectors for the older ADC connected studio displays. A nice new say `Ben Q will cost about the same. Have had two of the old power units pack up due to their age, now over ten years old. They did carry a load, providing mains power, USB, picture and volume.

I was just about to add a comment and I see that harryb2448 already beat me to what I was also going to suggest.

Forget any of the ADC (Apple Display Connector) adapter stuff and leave the Studio Display with the MDD G4 where it will still be useful and work.

Then do yourself a favour and pickup a reasonably priced new display that will probably make the old display appear rather anemic.

Sorry to disagree but mine works great and has never had an issue in the years of usage. A Good display will cost more than the price of the one adapter I gave him the URL for and he asked for a way to use his Studio display, not get a new one.

If you go that way Bear make sure you get the right adapter. There are ADC/DVI and DVI/ADC completely different adapters.

When I purchased mine to work with a MDD, cost new from Apple Australia was precisely $199.00.
