External HD # Grows Every Time I Plug It In

Hi all,

Whenever I plug in my external hard drive, the number in it's name grows.

For example, it'll be called External HD 1. I eject it, use it somewhere else, and plug it back in later, it's now called External HD 2. This messes up a lot of things that are dependent on the proper path to files on the hard drive.

How can I make it so the name stays consistent? Thanks!

Are you properly unmounting it before you unplug it? That's what you are supposed to do to protect the file system anyway.
