Dvd?

Visiting a friend who has HDTV with Apple TV, MBPro running Mavericks. Tried to play a DVD using external optical drive and Apple TV, and we kept getting an error message saying the DVD player couldn't operate in that window. What are we doing wrong please?

I think my question from last night ended up in another forum - apologies for that.

Brought a DVD to a friend's house, so I don't have his specs, but we tried to play a DVD from his brand new MB Pro, through Apple TV. Air play works, got the code, etc, but the DVD player kept saying "internal server error". DVD's won't play through Apple TV?

Pray tell was this a commercial DVD, home movie, burn via Toast Titanium or what?

As you can see, I apologized for the duplicate, as I couldn't find the original post.

It's a perfectly legal, commercial DVD.

Never suggested it was not.

Tried another disc as MBP slot loaders have a high failure rate?

Contacted a friend who works for Apple, and the short answer is that you can not play a DVD from Apple TV. Thought I'd share that in case others have the same question.
