I wonder van if we will be asked to go down the monthly instalment plan on the reported Office 2015?

No, you'll still be able to buy a perpetual licence:
The new Office apps for Mac will be available to Office 365 subscribers with no additional cost as part of their subscription, once released, while the company also plans to launch a perpetual license for a one-off buy at the same time as Office for Mac becomes available as final shipping software.
As to how much that costs, who knows.

I'm hoping they reinstate the 3 x install license in addition to the single install. When Office 2011 was first released I purchased the 3 install version, however, later on Microsoft abandoned that version and sold only the single license boxed copy.

I'll keep my eyes open for the public beta and grab a copy when it's available.

I'm hoping for only two features - better compatibility with Mendeley (which might be a combination of better support from both) and much better management of long documents (200+ pages). Handoff support would be nice too but certainly not a deal breaker.

Actually, now that I think of it, I'd really like some better support for newsletter style documents. Pages excels there and although that's not Word's forte, it would be nice if it was easier to make them in Word.
