Loaded new Yosemite on Friday. Downloaded the latest ONYX with date of 18 October, so it would work with 10.10. However, it will not open. Message says the software is not Apple software and Safari detected this during the download. Anyway to get ONYX to open to do maintenance and clean-up??
Thanks for all help and advice:*

OnyX has yet to be released for Yosemite so even if it did open, it won't work.

What you're seeing though is Gatekeeper. Odds are that the developer is not registered with Apple and OS X is warning you of this. If you'd like to disable this, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General and allows apps to be installed from anywhere. A better solution though would be to follow this.

Maybe you should contact the "Onyx folks" about this. This really isn't something we can address. Looking at the Onyx download page…I don't see an official Yosemite version of Onyx listed as of today's date (October 19, 2014):

I read on their forums that the developer only releases compatible versions after the final release of new versions of OS X. So, it might be a while before we see one.

I guess we need to be patient. Especially when we get such a good/helpful app for free!:)

I did the suggestion of Administration. It does work - control click - choose OPEN. Then the box comes up that this version of Onyx will not work with anything but 10.9. SO, patient I will be until the developers have something compatible with Yosemite. thanks to all of you for your comments. At least I now know what to do when I get the message that the app is not from the apple store and cannot be used.

Onyx for Yosemite 10.10

Downloaded the new version Onyx 2.9 for Yosemite today.

Unfortunately is freezes during Fixing disk permissions with a spinning colored ball.

When checking Force Quite, it states that Onyx is not responding.

Any ideas anyone?

My 2.9.0 has been working correctly on my 2012 MacBook Pro running the latest Yosemite.

You may want to try repairing permissions with Disk Utility and see if that helps.
