I loaded Yosemite on my iMac and Macbook pro with no issues. Loaded on my wife's iMac and now all I get is a white/blank screen. I powered-off and turned on again with the same result. Her iMac is apparently locked up. How do I fix this? (before she tries to use it).

Seems that since you already successfully installed Yosemite on two of your computers…that you should almost be an expert yourself!:)

What's the deal with your wife's iMac:

- What model is it (is it compatible with Yosemite)?
- How full is this iMac's hard drive?

Like I mentioned. Since you successfully installed Yosemite twice…and since you are much more familiar with the workings of your wife's iMac…you're certainly in a much better position to figure this out.

I think that we need more info before we can start making guess's/solutions.:)

My wife's iMac is newer than mine, maybe a couple years old and has lots of memory (even if it didn't, I would suppose that this would be flagged during the Yosemite installation process, maybe). I just checked again and the white/blank screen remains. The little spinning "busy" circle is spinning. This may indicate that the computer is doing something or that it is, indeed, locked-up. Maybe I should just wait a day and see it it works itself out. If you need additional info, let me know what you need.

A couple of years and lots of memory don't fill the bill alas. And how much free space on the hard drive.

The iMac specs: 2.7GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5 Processor; 4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM; 1 TB 7200RPM hard drive. Since I can't get it going, I can't tell how much memory is left, but I doubt that it's even approaching a quarter of that 1 TB. It's backed up thru Time Machine to a 2 TB My Book for Mac.
When I boot up, it shows the Apple logo and a loading bar beneath that progresses about a quarter of the way before the screen goes to white/blank. The spinning circle appears rather than a cursor, which seems to indicate to me that something is trying to load, but never gets there.
I may just take it to my Apple repair shop next week, unless there is a magic "fix it" key that I can press on boot-up.

Again...
"Memory" is not a synonym for "hard drive" or "storage."
You have 4 gig of memory.

Boot into Recovery (Command + R and go to utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Disk and see what is reported. Also 4GB is miniscule suggest going up to 8GB at least to see a huge improvement.

To Harryb2448: thanks for the tip, will try it. With regard to 8GB+ vs my 4GB, is this a hardware installation or is it something other than that?

That is indeed a hardware installation. As soon as I can pin it down I'll post the installation instructions to give you an idea how it is done.
