My wife has an early 2011 mac book pro. 5 months ago, I installed an SSD, and her system was flying. This week it's slowed to a crawl.

I opened activity manager and it shows that the system is using 80% of CPU power. There are no programs that I can quit that will reduce that

An internet search led me to restart the computer, then reset the PRAM and SMC.

Nothing has helped. Any advice is appreciated!

I cleaned out caches, repaired disk permissions. When I boot it into safe mode, it works fine. System resources are at 3-4%. Followed all the steps in the FAQ in this forum, still no help. I couldn't get the non-volatile memory reset to work, though (command-option-O-F during boot didn't do anything different for me.)

And next questions how much memory and free space on the hard drive?
