My 2009 MBP has slowed down considerably. I decided to replace the HD with a Solid State Drive and CNET at How to upgrade your MacBook Pro with an SSD - CNET describes how to do this. I next purchased SSD from Crucial at uk.crucial.com - Crucial SSD (solid state drives) . Crucial describes how to install the SSD and instructs one to remove the battery. However, the CNET video clip does not mention battery removal. My question is "Is the battery in the MBP removable and if so, is it essential to remove it when installing the SSD?"

When I did mine, I just disconnected the battery (easy to do, once you've got the back off).

Don't know if it is essential, but I did it to play safe.

It was a far easier job than I imagined to fit the SSD (got a Crucial M550). After fitting and reconnecting, remember to reset the date/time etc. Mine went back to midnight, 01/01/2001.

Good luck.

Many thanks Cowbrain. I'll do the same.
