How to stop iTunes for Mac OSX from jumping to next song

I like to listen to music in my iTunes library while I am working on playlist or editing info. Problem is: iTunes will jump to the next song it will play then I have to scroll or search to get back to the song I was editing. Is there a way to stop this. I do not use shuffle or repeat. Very annoying but I can not seem to figure out a way to stop it from jumping back.

I don't use iTunes much and I gather you probably using OS X Mavericks and the latest iTunes version, but what about just creating a playlist with just the one song you want to listed to or work on.

I tried playing songs from a playlist and working on editing songs in the song list and it does the same thing, it will jump back to the next song in the playlist. I wish it would just play the songs and not jump anywhere and stay where I am at in the Library. Still trying to find a solution, ty for the reply.

Why not just open the song you want to play in some other Application like QTPlayer ,or something other than iTunes, seeing that it won't seem to do what you want??

I just noticed that iTunes has an option to reset the number of plays but I don't know how much control it gives.

Good idea. Maybe I will look around for another player that will import my iTunes Library and use it for listening and just refer to iTunes as an database.

Downloaded Swinsian Trial

Found a nice alternative called Swinsian. I will try it out for 30 days. Now I can work on my database in iTunes and listen to my music at the same time without having to deal with iTunes automatically jumping to the the next tract playing. I would have liked to find a solution within iTunes, still looking for one. In the mean time this will work for now.

Stop after playing one song

To play just one song, using iTunes, and then stop, here is what I did, and it seems to work: At the top of the list of songs where the Apple symbol appears, just to the right is an icon with several short horizontal lines. I clicked this and got the "Up Next" window. I cleared the Up Next list. Thereafter, iTunes would play just the song I selected and then stop.

Hopefully that will work the next time I use iTunes, that "auto play the next" was driving me crazy enough that I'd just quit it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well, that stops the next iTunes song from playing but sure fill up the Console with pages and pages of comments like:
