iomega zip drive

So I have many zip disks laying around and would love to get the pics and stuff off of them before I erase them. I used to buy the OEM units that looked like floppy drives. I am wondering if anybody has taken one of them and put into a USB External case since they are IDE. I also remember that you could buy them formatted to mac. Does that mean that the older macs had a parallel printer port? (Sorry, I am new to apple)

The iomega zip drive comes in many formats: SCSI, ide parallel, atapi, and USB. The SCSI model I believe was also compatible with older Macs that had a SCSI input. I don't think you can put an atapi one in a USB carrier since the drive electronics are different and would not match a carrier case interface for IDE to USB.

Your best bet is to buy a USB zip drive from eBay and use that to attach to your Mac. The self powered USB zip drive should work OK and will mount on your desktop when you insert a disk.

Hmmm interesting thought since the ones hook up to the floppy cable. I have still a parallel one but no port on my mac. ****! it is just that I have at least 4 of them now that I don't want Maybe I will just see if I can network one of those older machines and then I can access a NAS or some other HD to dump the files. iomega drive does not mount

i have an iomega usb zip 100 drive that i read should mount when plugged in., I am running Yosemite on a Mac mini, and it does not mount, though it does appear in the system overview. any suggestions?

It will only show as mounted if you insert a zip disk. If it doesn't mount even with a zip disk inserted, the drive is defective.

Your zip drive not mounting could also be because it's not getting enough power from the USB port. Try using a dual USB connector to see if it will mount.
