It looks like you got a bad update or the download was corrupt. Did you make a backup before you updated MS Office 2011? If not, you'll probably have to uninstall Office 2011, and reinstall. Lots of work.

Uninstalling Office 2011 is the pits. DO not simply drag to Trash. First up try trashing .plist files in extensions and if still no joy settle down for a quiet hour and do this uninstall:-

I am running OS X 10.10 Mavericks Beta. Office was working yesterday and then I updated microsoft office and now will not let me open.

Considering that Mac OS 10.10 has not been officially released yet...are you 100% sure Microsoft 2011 is even compatible with 10.10 (or that the MS Office 2011 update that was applied is compatible with 10.10)?

And since 10.10 isn't really offically "done" yet (getting very close I'm thinking). If MS Office 2011 isn't running properly now...maybe it will with the final version & official release of 10.10.:)

It's really too early to be displeased with apps not running correctly when an OS is still in a pre-release stage. All you can really do is inform Apple about it. Assuming Office 2011 is even supposed to be compatible with 10.10.

Since you're discussing Office, I have a new mac book pro, just short of one year old. I have no office on the machine. I have Office, 2008. Should I install and get up dates for the software or will it not work properly? Or should I post this in a different section?

Thanks in advance for any help.

What Yosemite update are you talking about? The latest update to MS Office 2011 was issued several weeks ago and works fine with Mavericks and Yosemite. As far as product activation goes, a call to the MS activation number will take care of that. And, if Office has not been activated in the last 120 days, it can be activated again without having to call.

Office 2008 should work OK with Mavericks. Install it and download all the latest updates.

I can't speak for non English versions of Word. All I can tell you is that both Word 2008 and 2011 (English versions) are working OK with Mavericks and Yosemite. And since we haven't heard that other non English versions have a problem, I have to assume there's is something wrong with your setup in Russian.
